Joe Chianakas |
In addition, he created a district-wide martial arts program in Metamora. It began at Metamora High School in 2002, where high school students could participate in an after-school program learning karate, taekwondo and judo. Since then, it has spread to all public feeder grade schools in Metamora, where now children (along with interested parents and community members) can train also. Chianakas is a fourth-degree black belt in karate and also holds rankings in judo, taekwondo, and kobudo. He has been training in the martial arts for more than 16 years.
As a freelance writer, he enjoys writing everything from non-fiction and fiction to novels and poetry. He has written several features for Black Belt and also started the column Next Generation, which is devoted to the audience he works with on a daily basis: teenagers, our "next generation" of martial arts leaders.
