Black Belt
contributor Carl E. Long writes for the magazine's Cutting Edge column. The sword expert has earned advanced rank in shorin-ryu karate (seventh dan), shito-ryu karate (sixth dan), Okinawan kobudo (fifth dan), aikido, shindo muso-ryu jojutsu (fourth dan) and muso jikiden eishin-ryu iaijutsu renshi (sixth dan). He’s the senior student of Black Belt Hall of Fame member Masayuki Shimabukuro and the highest-ranked member of Jikishin Kai International under Shimabukuro. Long serves as vice chairman and director for the organization. The two worked together on the Black Belt  instructional DVD series Samurai Sworsmanship.
