Eric Oram is one of the world’s leading authorities in the realm of wing chun kung fu. Since 1985, Eric Oram has taught law-enforcement personnel such as the FBI and Navy SEALs. He has also extended his clientele to include professional athletes, including members of the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals. In addition to these athletes, he has served as a personal martial arts instructor, teaching actors such as Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal and Christian Bale. He is also an actor and fight choreographer, consulting on the fight scenes for the Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man movies.

The above kung fu techniques are excerpted from the DVD Grandmaster Cheung’s Wing Chun Kung Fu, in which the legendary grandmaster William Cheung teaches advanced applications of the three empty-hand forms. Eric Oram’s instructor, William Cheung, was born in 1940 — one month before the iconic jeet kune do founder Bruce Lee — in Hong Kong. He began his kung fu techniques training under Ip Man in 1951. During the 1954 to 1958 period in which William Cheung was as a live-in student of Ip Man’s, he inherited the complete teachings of traditional wing chun kung fu and would introduce Bruce Lee to Ip Man.
In 1973, William Cheung took himself and his knowledge to Australia. William Cheung was elected president of the Australian Kung Fu Federation in 1976. He went on to serve as chief instructor of for the U.S. 7th Fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan, from 1978 to 1980, during which time he taught hand-to-hand close-quarters combat to the soldiers there.
William Cheung was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as the Kung Fu Artist of the Year in 1983. He is the author (or co-author) of a vast series of books and DVDs detailing the intricacies of wing chun kung fu, which include the following:
