John Machado is one of the foremost Brazilian jiu-jitsu authorities.

John Machado is a fifth-degree black belt and the nephew of Carlos Gracie, the founder of modern Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Recognized and respected for his teaching expertise and his outstanding fighting and competitive accomplishments, Machado is one of the foremost jiu-jitsu authorities. His talent has been showcased in several major motion pictures and television appearances.

Since he first began his training more than 20 years ago, Machado has won numerous awards and competitions. He has also developed his own style of Brazilian jiu-jitsu for practical use, which he has taught to the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Israeli Secret Service.

For more than four years, he has worked with Avi Nardia and the Kapap Academy on developing different forms of training. Machado served as a special adviser for the book Kapap Combat Concepts. He is also featured in the four-DVD companion series.
