Michael Lizarraga

Martial artist and freelance writer Michael Lizarraga studies muay Thai, tai chi and aikido.

Michael Lizarraga is a Los Angeles-based freelance writer and martial artist whose work has appeared in Black Belt, Inside Kung-Fu and Kung-Fu Tai Chi magazines. Lizarraga has profiled Eric Lee, Kathy Long and Cynthia Rothrock and also writes for Prism, New Man and LaTeen magazines. Growing up practicing muay Thai, Lizarraga has incorporated everything from grappling to tai chi to aikido into his repertoire.

While serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and contributing to his company’s public-affairs office, Lizarraga earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge, in 1999. After five years as a legal book editor, Lizarraga returned to writing and became a freelancer.
