Patrick Vuong writes Black Belt's Screen Shots column. He is a freelance journalist, screenwriter and martial artist based in Orange County, California.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Canada, Vuong studied English and film at the University of Alberta. He earned a journalism degree from California State University, Fullerton, and has been writing film criticism since his late teens. His list of celebrity interviews include Jet Li and Tom Cruise.

Vuong is an instructor of lai chung chuan fa, holds a black belt in kenpo karate, and has had formal training in tai chi chuan and northern Shaolin chuan fa. This martial arts junkie also has dabbled in aikido, Brazilian jui-jitsu, jeet kune do, kali, kuntao silat, pentjak silat and wing chun.

Vuong directed, co-wrote and choreographed the fight scenes for a short movie, Remember Me.
