Black Belt contributor Philip Ameris is a seventh-degree black belt in taekwondo and a senior student of grandmaster Hee Il Cho. Ameris—who has been training in the martial arts for 38 years—is the chief instructor at Cho’s Taekwondo in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Ameris competed in several national and international martial arts competitions and captained the USA taekwondo team during the 1988 World Championships. Ameris travels around the world teaching seminars and clinics on traditional taekwondo as well as a course on women’s self-defense. His hobbies include running, boxing and weight training.
