Black Belt contributor Scott Shaw began his evolution through the martial arts more than 40 years ago when he began to study hapkido and taekwondo. He holds black belts in both arts. In 1996 he became the first non-Korean ever to be awarded the seventh-dan black belt by the Korea Hapkido Federation. Since that time, he has earned an eighth dan in hapkido and taekwondo. When the Southern California native isn't practicing the martial arts, he is busy with his other passions: music, filmmaking, acting and traveling.
