Jeet Kune Do

Known as the “way of the intercepting fist,” jeet kune do was created by martial arts legend Bruce Lee in the 1960s and early 1970s. He developed the style around the idea that martial artists shouldn’t be bound to the dictates of a certain defense or offense. Instead, they should absorb what is useful in order to deal with opponents from any combat background. In his own practice, Lee borrowed from a variety of arts, including wing chun kung fu, Western fencing, boxing and wrestling.

Today, there are two schools of JKD thought: The first is considered to be the art that Lee practiced until his death. The second applies Lee’s strategies, philosophy and attitude to martial arts techniques as the individual practitioner or school sees fit. The style is rarely used in competition but is well-known for its practical street applications.
