Stefan Verstappen is a writer, adventurer and martial arts practitioner with more than 30 years of experience.  In 1985, after three years of study in Toronto’s old Chinatown kung fu schools, Verstappen traveled to Hong Kong to study under renowned grandmaster Chan Hon Chung. Chan was one of the last of the great hung gar masters from the Lam Sai Wing Kung Fu Academy in Wan Chai. Lam was the senior student of China’s most famous kung fu hero, Wong Fei Hong.

In 1987, Verstappen moved to Taipei and studied the 18 lohan style under master Tsai Jen Ryu. Tsai was the former team captain of the Taiwan Kuo Shou demonstration team and is famous for his chi kung and weapons routines. Verstappen has traveled extensively throughout the Far East and studied several additional styles of martial arts.

Verstappen is the author of The Thirty-Six Strategies of Ancient China, a compilation of classical Chinese strategies and tactics; Blind Zen, the first book ever written to teach martial arts to the blind; and the Little Warriors, a series of books to teach children street safety and stranger-abduction prevention. He is also a regular contributor to Black Belt. Verstappen continues to write about and conduct workshops and seminars on Chinese kung fu and strategy.
