She is a board member of the Bruce Lee Foundation and is the author of The Straight Lead: The Core of Bruce Lee's Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do and Jeet Kune Do: The Arsenal of Self-Expression.

Tom has a bachelor’s degree in communications from UCLA and a master’s degree in nutritional science from California State University, Los Angeles. She is a registered dietitian who specializes in sports nutrition, and she earned her personal-training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She penned a nutritional book titled Martial Arts Nutrition: A Precision Guide to Fueling Your Fighting Edge.

In addition to JKD, Tom is currently studying Freedman’s Method of ketsugo jujutsu under David Weinberg.
