Wim Demeere

Black Belt contributor Wim Demeere started his martial arts training at age 14 with judo and jujutsu. He later switched to a traditional Chinese style called hung chia pai.

At age 18, Demeere began competing in full-contact tournaments and specializing in sanshou. After winning his first national title, he participated in several European and world championships. He became the Belgian national champion four times and earned the bronze medal at the 1993 Wushu World Championships in Malaysia. He retired from full-contact competition in 2000 and became the national trainer for the Belgian Wushu Federation’s sanshou team. In 1997 Demeere began studying tai chi chuan. He also has practiced muay Thai, kali, pentjak silat and shootfighting.

Demeere has co-written martial arts books with Loren W. Christensen and produced several instructional DVDs. He teaches martial arts, self-defense and conditioning both as a personal trainer and in seminars across the world.
