Do you recall this cover...?

The September 1978 cover of Black Belt Magazine featured 28-year-old Michael Echanis, an American soldier, martial artist, and soldier of fortune. He served in "C" Company of the 75th Ranger Regiment during the Vietnam War and later made his mark as a writer and martial arts expert. From 1974 to 1976, Echanis was the martial arts editor for Soldier of Fortune magazine, where he shared his unique insights and battlefield experience.

Tragically, he lost his life while working as a private security contractor in Nicaragua, but his legacy continues to influence martial artists and military professionals through his books on military style combat.

Martial artist in camo performs a flying kick. Another soldier holds a rifle, crouching. Magazine cover text: Black Belt, Hwarangdo Training.
