- BRAVE CF champion Abdisalam Kubanychbek sends stark message to challenger Raul Tutarauli: 'Not afraid of you'
BRAVE CF Lightweight champion Abdisalam Kubanychbek is gearing up for his first official title defense as he will be fighting Georgian superstar Raul Tutarauli in the main event of BRAVE CF 87 in the Netherlands, on September 22. While a win could catapult Kubanychbek as the greatest fighter in BRAVE CF history, for the Kyrgyz superstar, the fight is about inspiring the next generation of fighters in his country. MMA in Kyrgyzstan has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the success of Kubanychbek in BRAVE CF. He has been unstoppable in the organization and the exposure that he has gained competing in the most global MMA organization has trickled down to his home country, inspiring the next wave of MMA talent from the nation. For Kubanychbek, while winning the Lightweight title was an important milestone, he believes defending the belt will have an even greater impact. “We try to set an example for the younger generation, so we do not stop at what we achieved. We do not want young guys to have the idea that becoming a champion is easy. Being a champion means training hard, not skipping training, and putting in even more effort. This is our main goal,” he noted in a recent interview. Kubanychbek will have an opportunity to do just that when he fights Tutarauli at BRAVE CF 87 in the Netherlands. Not only will he have the chance to inspire the next generation of MMA talent from his country, but Kubanychbek can also break the Lightweight title curse in BRAVE Combat Federation as no Lightweight champion has been able to defend the title successfully in the organization. While Kubanychbek was scheduled for his first title defense at BRAVE CF 77, his opponent, Lucas Martins missed weight, subsequently making it a non-title fight. Now, the champion is back, hoping to make history and become the first fighter to defend the BRAVE CF Lightweight title. It will be easier said than done for the Kyrgyz star as Raul comes in with an impressive resume and is a two-division regional MMA champion, looking to continue the dominance of Georgian fighters in the MMA world. As Kubanychbek prepares for the upcoming fight, he is aware of the challenge Raul presents. “We watched Raul's fights. For 2 months now, together with our coaches, we have been studying his tactics. We are preparing for his fighting style. We noticed that he is a well-rounded fighter, he is good both in wrestling and striking. We analyzed all these points and are ready to surprise him. God willing, I will be able to demonstrate all my developments during the fight. No one can give guarantees, not even Raul. I’m not afraid of him. We have won before and we will again” he added. BRAVE CF 87 will mark BRAVE Combat Federation’s second event in the Netherlands following the organization’s debut event in the nation earlier this year with BRAVE CF 83. The event will be held in association with Enfusion’s ECE MMA brand and follows BRAVE CF 86 in Bulgaria.
- From Trailblazers to Champions: The Evolution of Women's MMA
Follow Black Belt Mag on WhatsApp for daily updates: https://bit.ly/blackbeltmagonwhatsapp Women's Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has witnessed an extraordinary evolution, transforming from a niche segment into a globally recognized sport. This article delves into the dynamic evolution of women's MMA, highlighting key moments, historic fights, and the new generation of fighters leading the charge. Early Challenges: Breaking into the Sport In the early 1990s, when MMA began to emerge as a recognized sport, female fighters were often relegated to the sidelines. Promoters and audiences alike struggled to see women competing in the brutal world of combat sports. MMA promotions were dominated by male athletes, while women found limited opportunities in regional circuits or less-publicized events. However, the ambition of female fighters could not be suppressed. Women like Megumi Fujii , a pioneer in Japan’s Shooto promotion, demonstrated that technical skill and tenacity were not limited by gender. Fujii, a submission specialist, went on a 22-fight win streak, showcasing the high-level grappling abilities of women in MMA. Similarly, Gina Carano became a key figure in the United States, earning the title of the first female MMA superstar due to her marketability and fighting prowess. At the time, many viewed women's participation in MMA as a novelty, but Carano's matches, particularly her headlining fight against Cris Cyborg in Strikeforce in 2009, were pivotal. The fight was the first time a major MMA promotion put a women’s fight as the main event, signaling a change in public perception. Though Carano lost, the bout shattered the glass ceiling, paving the way for broader acceptance. Enter Ronda Rousey: The UFC’s First Female Champion The true tipping point for women’s MMA came when Ronda Rousey entered the scene. Rousey, an Olympic bronze medalist in Judo, quickly rose to prominence due to her unmatched grappling skills, particularly her devastating armbar submission. Rousey’s rise coincided with UFC President Dana White’s shift in attitude toward women's MMA. For years, White had been adamant that women would never compete in the UFC, citing a lack of depth in the talent pool. However, Rousey’s dominance in Strikeforce (another major MMA promotion that was later acquired by the UFC) made her undeniable. In 2012, she became the first woman to sign with the UFC, and in 2013, she defended her Bantamweight title in the first-ever women’s fight in UFC history at UFC 157 against Liz Carmouche . The fight was historic for multiple reasons. It drew significant attention, both in terms of viewership and media coverage. The match was competitive, with Carmouche nearly submitting Rousey before Ronda executed her trademark armbar in the first round to win the fight. This was a pivotal moment, as it proved that women’s MMA could headline major UFC events and draw significant interest. Rousey went on to defend her title six times in dominant fashion, with most of her victories coming in the first round. Her quick finishes, aggressive attitude, and media savvy helped elevate women’s MMA to new heights. She became a global superstar, appearing in movies and transcending the sport. The Fall of a Giant: Rousey’s Defeats and the Rise of New Champions As dominant as Ronda Rousey was, her reign came to a stunning halt at UFC 193 in 2015. Rousey faced former boxing champion Holly Holm , whose tactical striking and superior footwork exposed weaknesses in Rousey's stand-up game. Holm knocked out Rousey in the second round with a vicious head kick, shocking the world and ending Rousey's undefeated streak. Holm’s victory ushered in a new era, proving that women’s MMA was evolving beyond the dominance of a single fighter. Rousey’s style, which had relied heavily on her judo and armbar submissions, was no longer enough in an increasingly well-rounded and competitive sport. Rousey’s defeat was followed by another knockout loss to Amanda Nunes , a Brazilian fighter who would go on to become one of the most dominant champions in UFC history. Nunes’ devastating knockout in just 48 seconds at UFC 207 signaled the end of Rousey’s MMA career and the dawn of Nunes’ reign. Amanda Nunes: The Greatest of All Time Amanda Nunes , often referred to as "The Lioness," is widely regarded as the greatest female MMA fighter of all time. Her well-rounded game, featuring powerful striking, high-level grappling, and relentless pace, has set her apart in both the Bantamweight and Featherweight divisions. Nunes became the first woman in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously. Her knockout of Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 in 2018 was a defining moment in her career. Cyborg, previously seen as nearly unbeatable, was finished in less than a minute, solidifying Nunes' status as the best pound-for-pound female fighter. Beyond Cyborg, Nunes also holds victories over many of the sport’s biggest names, including Rousey, Holm, and Valentina Shevchenko . Her ability to consistently defeat top-tier opponents across two divisions has earned her accolades as not just the best female fighter but one of the greatest in MMA history, male or female. Valentina Shevchenko: Precision and Dominance Valentina Shevchenko , a former Muay Thai world champion, is another iconic figure in the modern era of women's MMA. Known for her surgical precision and high-level striking, Shevchenko has been a dominant force in the Flyweight division. After narrowly losing to Amanda Nunes twice at Bantamweight, she moved down to her more natural weight class, where she became the UFC Flyweight Champion. Shevchenko’s dominance at Flyweight has been impressive, with successful title defenses against top contenders like Jessica Andrade , Joanna Jędrzejczyk , and Katlyn Chookagian . Her technical brilliance, adaptability, and ability to control the pace of fights have made her one of the most feared and respected fighters in the sport. Her battles with Amanda Nunes, particularly the razor-close split decision loss at UFC 215, have fueled discussions about a potential third fight between the two champions. Shevchenko's reign as the Flyweight champion has redefined the technical ceiling for female fighters, making her a key figure in the evolution of women’s MMA. Historic Fights that Shaped Women's MMA Several key fights have defined the trajectory of women's MMA, showcasing the sport's evolution, talent depth, and technical growth: Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg (Strikeforce, 2009) : This was the first high-profile women's fight to headline a major MMA event, helping to legitimize women's MMA in the U.S. Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche (UFC 157, 2013) : The first women's fight in UFC history, which marked the official integration of women into the UFC. Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey (UFC 193, 2015) : Holm's knockout of the seemingly unbeatable Rousey changed the entire landscape of women's MMA, opening the door for new champions. Amanda Nunes vs. Cris Cyborg (UFC 232, 2018) : Nunes’ knockout victory solidified her as the greatest female fighter in history, while ending Cyborg's reign of terror in the Featherweight division. Weili Zhang vs. Joanna Jędrzejczyk (UFC 248, 2020) : This five-round war was widely regarded as one of the greatest fights in MMA history, male or female. It demonstrated how far the technical level of women's MMA had come, with fast-paced striking exchanges and incredible resilience on both sides. The Future: Rising Stars and the Next Generation As the sport continues to evolve, a new generation of fighters is emerging, each pushing the boundaries of what women can achieve in MMA. Tatiana Suarez – Known for her Olympic-level wrestling and undefeated record, Suarez is considered one of the most promising fighters in the Strawweight and Flyweight divisions. Alongside this titanic battle, a thrilling rematch between former lightweight champions Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler serves as the co-main event in what promises to be one of the most stacked cards of the year. The Battle for Heavyweight Legacy: Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic Jon "Bones" Jones (27-1, 1 NC), widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of all time, will make his first heavyweight title defense since his stunning first-round submission of Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. This victory crowned Jones as a two-division UFC champion, adding to his already legendary resume. His move to heavyweight was highly anticipated, and after a dominant debut, fans were left eager to see him face the division’s best. Enter Stipe Miocic (20-4), a two-time UFC heavyweight champion who holds the record for most successful heavyweight title defenses in UFC history. Miocic, known for his grit, cardio, and knockout power, has been the gold standard in the heavyweight division for years. This will be his first fight since losing the belt to Francis Ngannou in 2021, but the 42-year-old Ohio native believes he has one more championship run left in him. With a win, Miocic could etch his name in the history books as a three-time UFC heavyweight champion. The fight between Jones and Miocic has been long in the making. Originally scheduled for UFC 295 last year, injuries sidelined Jones, forcing the bout’s postponement. Now, at UFC 309, fans will finally witness the highly anticipated showdown between the man many consider the greatest fighter of all time and the greatest heavyweight champion in UFC history. Oliveira vs. Chandler 2: The Rematch That Could Shape the Lightweight Division In the co-main event, former lightweight champions Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira and Michael Chandler will meet again in a rematch that is sure to deliver fireworks. Their first bout, which took place at UFC 262 in Houston, saw Oliveira capture the vacant lightweight title with a second-round TKO after surviving a dominant first round from Chandler. That victory propelled Oliveira into UFC superstardom, but his recent struggles have left his title ambitions hanging by a thread. Oliveira (34-10, 1 NC) is coming off two losses in his last three fights, including a recent defeat to rising contender Arman Tsarukyan. "Do Bronx" is eager to reassert his dominance and secure another shot at lightweight gold. For Chandler (23-8), this rematch represents an opportunity to avenge the heartbreaking defeat from their first meeting and vault himself back into the title conversation. The 38-year-old former Bellator champion is known for his explosiveness and tenacity, and he’s made it clear that he believes the fight with Oliveira is his best path to a UFC title. With their exciting styles and histories of high-paced finishes, Oliveira vs. Chandler 2 is sure to be another barnburner, and the result could shape the future of the lightweight division. Craig, a dangerous submission artist, looks to bounce back after a loss and prove he’s still a force to be reckoned with. - The 5 Greatest Martial Arts Rivalries That Changed Combat Sports Forever!
Follow Black Belt Mag on WhatsApp for daily updates: https://bit.ly/blackbeltmagonwhatsapp Martial arts have a rich history filled with legendary rivalries that captivate fans, spark intense debates, and, most importantly, shape the evolution of combat sports. These rivalries bring out the best in fighters, forcing them to push beyond their limits and leaving an indelible mark on martial arts history. Let's take a deep dive into the top five greatest martial arts rivalries of all time. 1. Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier – Boxing Legends Clash When you think of iconic sports rivalries, the trilogy between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier is unavoidable. This rivalry epitomized the raw essence of boxing and the cultural significance of martial arts during the 1970s. Their first encounter, known as the “Fight of the Century,” saw Frazier defeat Ali, handing him his first professional loss. Ali would later get his revenge in their rematch, but it was the infamous "Thrilla in Manila" that remains etched in history. Ali emerged victorious, but both men were left battered and forever changed. Why It Matters : This rivalry transcended sports and became a symbol of political and social debates, with Ali being a vocal critic of the Vietnam War, while Frazier represented the working-class underdog. 2. Rickson Gracie vs. Marco Ruas – The Battle for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Supremacy In the early days of Vale Tudo in Brazil, Rickson Gracie and Marco Ruas were the faces of two opposing styles: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Luta Livre. This rivalry was more than just personal; it was about proving which martial art reigned supreme in no-holds-barred fighting. Though these two legends never officially met inside the ring, their schools, students, and ideologies clashed on multiple occasions, intensifying the rivalry. Rickson’s undefeated aura and Ruas’ innovative blend of grappling and striking fueled the fire, and their rivalry set the stage for the future of MMA. Why It Matters : This rivalry laid the foundation for the evolution of MMA, proving that mixed disciplines would eventually dominate combat sports. 3. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen – The Ultimate Underdog Story Few rivalries in the UFC have garnered as much attention as Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen. The animosity between the two was palpable. Sonnen’s trash talk leading up to their UFC 117 fight is legendary, where he ridiculed Silva’s fighting style, personal life, and even the Brazilian culture. However, when they finally met in the Octagon, Sonnen dominated Silva for nearly five rounds, only to be submitted by a last-minute triangle choke. Their rematch at UFC 148 was equally hyped, with Silva winning convincingly. Why It Matters : Silva vs. Sonnen not only showcased one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history but also elevated the sport’s popularity through masterful storytelling and promotion. 4. Sakuraba vs. Gracie Family – The Japanese Samurai vs. Brazilian Dynasty Kazushi Sakuraba earned the nickname “The Gracie Hunter” by systematically defeating members of the legendary Gracie family. This rivalry was born during the heyday of PRIDE FC when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was seen as nearly unbeatable. Sakuraba, known for his creativity and unorthodox style, shocked the world by defeating Royler, Royce, Renzo, and Ryan Gracie. His matches with Royce Gracie, particularly their 90-minute marathon bout, are considered some of the most iconic moments in martial arts history. Why It Matters : Sakuraba’s victories against the Gracie family were not just victories for Japanese MMA but also symbolized the evolution of mixed martial arts, where pure style dominance began to fade. 5. Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov – Modern-Day Gladiators Collide The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably the most intense and personal feud in modern MMA history. The build-up to their UFC 229 clash was filled with heated exchanges, personal attacks, and even physical altercations. When they finally met in the Octagon, Khabib dominated McGregor, forcing him to tap out in the fourth round. The post-fight brawl between Khabib’s team and McGregor’s entourage only added to the drama, cementing this rivalry as one for the ages. Why It Matters : Khabib vs. McGregor transcended the sport, bringing in casual fans and breaking UFC pay-per-view records. It was a classic clash of personalities, cultures, and fighting styles that ended with Khabib solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time. These rivalries are more than just battles in a ring or cage. They represent the essence of martial arts—the desire to prove oneself as the best, the clash of ideologies, and the evolution of combat sports. From boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to MMA, these rivalries have shaped martial arts in ways that still resonate today.
- Chuck Norris Secrets and Tips to Anti-Aging
Follow Black Belt Mag on WhatsApp for daily updates: https://bit.ly/blackbeltmagonwhatsapp Do you want to have the longevity of Chuck Norris or a dinosaur? I choose Chuck Norris because he is 81 and in fantastic shape. Dinosaurs only lived about 30 years; they just were here millions of years ago. However, similar to Chuck Norris, the herbivore dinosaur lived much longer at about 70 years. So, maybe we are on to something. First, however, let's learn the incredible secrets of Chuck Norris so you too can improve your longevity, healthy, and be spy like Chuck. Chuck Norris Fitness Faithfully, Chuck workouts out on his Total Gym 4 days a week. He loves it because he uses leverage, cables, and his body weight through movement. However, the Total Gym and his martial arts training help his body feel and stay young. Three days a week, Chuck spends about 20 minutes on his Total Gym. After his strength workout, he either does the elliptical machine for about 30-40 minutes or will go for a two-mile brisk walk, depending on how he feels and what he wants to do. The final few things he does after his cardio are his abdominals and stretching. The other three days, he trains martial arts. He works with a mixture of slow and fast movements. Chuck also heads off to the pool after martial arts training. He likes it because it is low impact resistance in the water. It also gives him a great cardio workout. Furthermore, the water is an excellent source for physical recovery. Chuck recommends exercising four times a week for at least 20-30 minutes. It serves as one key to increasing longevity and preventing aging. For example, if you have been exercising since a child until the age of 40 and up, you can knock off 20-30 years of aging. So, if you are 60, you will feel 30-40 years old. And if you are 81 like Chuck Norris, you will feel 50-60 years old. Chuck's Nutrition Nutrition is the second important factor when it comes to anti-aging. Chuck says he eats lots of whole foods and organic food. He says, it is a bit more expensive, but you have to look at it as a life investment. You will feel better, have good energy, and decrease your risk of disease. Breakfast Chuck says breakfast is the most important meal of his day. It boosts his metabolism and energy. Chuck eats protein with whole grains in the morning. A sample breakfast he has is egg whites with tomatoes, onions with whole wheat bread. Sometimes it is oatmeal with raisins and bananas. Or a protein drink blended with cranberry and orange juice, banana, nectarine, or peach, with protein powder and ice in a blender. You can’t skip breakfast. Sometimes Chuck channels the spirit of Elvis and has a peanut butter and banana sandwich on grain bread. Lunch For lunch, Chuck eats turkey or fish with vegetables. He stopped eating red meat, processed oils, and fat some time ago. As an alternative sandwich for lunch, he uses avocado. Avocado sandwiches are delicious on whole grain bread. You can even add turkey to avocado sandwich too. Dinner For dinner, he eats no later than 6PM. Also, he avoids carbs in the evening time. By doing this, it helps maintain his weight. It also helps him sleep and feel better the following day. Eating late after ten will make you tired and sluggish the next day. But the time to stop eating is different for everyone. Chuck eats a lot of green vegetables with baked skinless chicken breast or salmon that is free-range, with red baked potato or brown rice. Chuck's Recommendations Sugar is a no-no. Instead, use sugar in the raw or stevia. Drink lots of water. Carry a bottle everywhere you go. Keep fresh fruit and vegetables available for snacks. Chuck used to eat whatever he wanted in his 20’s, however, his nutrition matured in his mid 30’s. When he was younger, he used to eat pancakes, steak and burgers etc. Now eating these things makes him feel sluggish. When he hit his mid-30s, he saw his metabolism change and slow down, even from doing super hard workouts. This was the point when Chuck needed to rethink his eating habits. This is important when it comes to aging and longevity. You have to adapt to how you feel. When you adapt, it is like shifting your energy into high gear. The body changes, and if you change your nutrition accordingly, listing to your body, then you will feel young. Getting older does require nutritional sacrifices and changes to feel and stay young. I went through similar things. For example, I stopped eating late at night and felt better in the morning; even if I did not sleep so well. Furthermore, having one alcoholic drink became difficult. I started to get headaches and it made me really slow the next day. So, I cut it all out. It is hard in the beginning to change your nutrition. But time after time and day after day when you are feeling tired, you will wake up and tell yourself to change. Like Chuck says, it has to become a habit. Feeling tired day in and day out should be enough to make that habit easy.
- 3 Historical Self Defense Methods for Becoming a More Alert Martial Artist
The Primary Factor in Self-Protection and Self-Defense is Situational Awareness. Keeping in mind that crime is more often than not a product of opportunity, if we take steps to reduce that opportunity to as close to nil as we can manage, we’ve gone a long way toward rendering our physical tactical training unnecessary. (That would be a good thing.) Yes, having defensive tactical skills in our back pocket is a great ace to carry throughout the day, but all the more useful for saving our lives or the lives of loved ones is having a honed awareness, a ready alertness to what’s occurring around us every single day. There’s a problem, though. Maintaining such SUCH awareness is a tough job because most of our day-to-day existence is safe and mundane (also a good thing), and it’s this very safety that allows us to backslide in the awareness department. Without daily danger-stressors, we easily can fall into default comfort mode. Clearly, we need to take action to return awareness and alertness to the fore. A useful practice for accomplishing this is to gamify our awareness. That entails using specific drills on a revolving basis to keep our mind on our daily routine while also making a bit of a game out of things that could save our skin. I use a series of gamified awareness drills culled from historical warrior traditions that were developed across the globe. Where appropriate, I update the historical method to fit our 21st-century environment. Described below are three of the many drills you can use to accomplish this goal. The First Historical Method The first awareness exercise for warriors comes from a Comanche tradition called Puewatsi Nemito, meaning “The Wild Walker” or “Walk of the Wild.” SETUP: Today, you are on the menu. No matter where you are — in an urban setting, a natural setting, or somewhere in between — live as if you’re a hunted man, a targeted woman, a person on someone’s kill list. Know who or what is behind you at all times. Look into the faces of the people around you — is one of them your hunter? Look at the hands of those around you — is there a method of your demise in one of their hands? Keep to the edges of trails or sidewalks because only confident or foolhardy animals cross open ground. Treat all security cameras as tools to locate you and avert your face when passing by or beneath them. Treat birds as possible drones. In short, live with your eyes wide open, your mind alert. Live as if you’re being stalked. At the end of the exercise, ask yourself what you learned from this bit of role-playing. It should be that warriors must be aware. Aware of what? Everything. And warriors must be awake. All details are of interest because any detail may be important. You don’t know what detail will change your life. You don’t know what detail will save your life. The Second Historical Method Here's another drill adapted from Puewatsi Nemito. It’s an inverse of the Hukhiap’u Puniti, or “Shadow Watcher,” drill. SETUP: Today, look for reflections. Find all the reflective surfaces that you can and see what those reflections hold. Look for the trees in the windows of your home. See the glint of the semi in the window of a passing car. Locate the rippled reflection of the sky or yourself in a puddle of water. Watch what’s happening around you in the restaurant using your beverage glass. Note the distorted you in the eyes of the person you’re speaking with. The only reflection you shouldn’t pay attention to is the one you see in a mirror. Otherwise, find any and all reflections and note how many surfaces provide mirror images. I repeat: Warriors must be aware. Aware of what? Everything. And warriors must be awake. All details are of interest because any detail may be important. You don’t know what detail will change your life. You don’t know what detail will save your life. The Third Historical Method The third drill is adapted from a practice found in the Northeast Indian warrior traditions and the Viking tradition. Before we begin, consider these historical messages: “If you are wise, be wise. Keep what goods the gods gave you. Don’t ignore five good senses seeking an unknown sixth.” — The Viking Havamal “Don’t get caught looking for leaves in the trees in autumn. Those leaves are on the ground.” — Comanche teaching “Look.” “At what?” “Everything, then you’ll never have to ask.” — Medicine man speaking to a young warrior SETUP: Take three, find five. Select a 15-minute period in your day. Take three steps, then stop and note — verbally, if possible — five things in your environment that you can physically sense. They can be objects you see, sounds you hear, scents you smell, flavors you taste, even the breeze you feel. Take three more steps and repeat the drill but don’t duplicate any of the things already on your list. Continue until the period is up. If you take the time to honestly commit to this drill, you’ll find there’s far more to sense than you normally take in. We gloss over and glide through so much of life that what we miss can be astounding. I repeat the exchange: “Look.” “At what?” “Everything, then you’ll never have to ask.”
