ONE 166: Qatar has gotten two more World Championship additions. The star-studded event will now have five titles on the line for the March 1 event, the promotion revealed on Tuesday.
ONE Atomweight MMA World Champion Stamp Fairtex will defend her gold for the first time at ONE 166. Standing across from the global sensation will be Denice Zamboanga.
Stamp completed her journey to three-sport gold last September. The Thai star became the undisputed atomweight queen with a memorable third-round TKO against Ham Seo Hee at ONE Fight Night 14.
“The Menace” will try to bring the belt back to the Philippines with her third straight victory. The 27-year-old has shown outstanding growth as a mixed martial artist with wins over Julie Mezabarba and Lin Heqin to secure her shot at Stamp.
Submission grappling gold was also added to the bill.
ONE Welterweight Submission Grappling World Champion Tye Ruotolo will also defend his title for the first time. Attempting to dethrone the American will be Izaak Michell.
The 25-year-old Aussie is no stranger to success. As one of the world’s top no-gi grapplers, Michell hopes to show the world his skills against the prodigy and complete his rise to the top of the sport.
But defeating Ruotolo will take something special. He has been untouchable on the global stage, and the youngest IBJJF World Champion in history is still intent on leaving an indelible legacy as the best submission ace in history.
ONE 166: Qatar airs live on Friday, March 1, from the Lusail Sports Arena. Stay tuned for global broadcast details.
