Black Belt Hall of Famer Demura

Saturday, June 17, will see a seminar held in the memory of the late karate legend and Black Belt hall of famer Fumio Demura at the headquarters dojo of his Genbu-Kai organization in Santa Ana, Calif. Demura, who passed away in April at the age of 84, will be honored with classes held by a group of renowned karateka.



Tomohiro Arashiro, the senior representative of the Okinawan ryuei-ryu style in the Americas, will give a class on the anan dai kata. Takafumi Hamabata, who founded the Japanese Karate Masters Association of North America or Hokubei Karate-do Shihan-kai with Demura and a host of other well known masters, will present a class in goju karate fundamentals and the kururunfa kata. And Brian Hilliard, a student of Demura's who was a member of the U.S. national karate team and three-time national champion, will offer a class in kumite.


For those who can't attend in person, the seminar will be available online via Zoom for $25.
