Ailin Pérez is on a mission to cement her name among the UFC’s elite as she steps into the Octagon this Saturday, September 28, 2024, at UFC Fight Night in Paris. The Argentinian bantamweight, known for her vibrant energy and post-fight celebrations, will face off against Russia’s knockout artist, Darya Zheleznyakova, in what promises to be a thrilling bout.
While Pérez is no stranger to the spotlight—both inside and outside the cage—she recently made headlines for trying to teach fellow UFC star Paulo Costa how to twerk. In a viral social media clip, the two are seen sharing a laugh as "Fiona" attempts to show “The Eraser” some dance moves. Although Costa’s dance skills might need some work, Pérez's confidence shines through both in and out of the ring.
A Fighter on the Rise
Pérez enters UFC Paris riding a three-fight win streak, with her last performances earning her a spot in the Top 15 of the UFC’s bantamweight division. Her impressive run began with a dominant win over Ashlee Evans-Smith, where she tied the UFC women’s record for most takedowns in a fight, scoring ten takedowns—a feat that stands alone in the UFC women's bantamweight history.
Following that, Pérez secured back-to-back unanimous decision victories against Lucie Pudilova and Joselyne Edwards, showcasing her grappling prowess and relentless energy. Training out of The Goat Shed in Miami, the 29-year-old fighter has been refining her skills, determined to rise through the ranks and eventually crack into the top 10.
Seeking Redemption in Paris
Returning to Paris holds special meaning for Pérez. She made her UFC debut in the same city in 2022, stepping up on short notice in a featherweight bout against Stephanie Egger. That fight didn’t go her way, but it opened the door to her UFC career. Now, two years later, she’s looking for redemption in the City of Light.
Standing in her way is Darya Zheleznyakova, a boxer-heavy striker with a record packed with knockouts and early finishes. Zheleznyakova, a product of the famed Fernand Lopez gym, secured her first UFC win last year and poses a dangerous threat to Pérez's momentum. But Pérez remains unfazed.
“I saw her earlier when we were signing posters,” Pérez shared confidently. “I looked in her eyes, and I didn’t see much confidence there.”
Eyes on the Top 10
Pérez is not only focused on Saturday’s fight but also has her sights set on bigger opportunities. Her goal is clear: to break into the top 10 and compete for the title. “I’m always ready to fight anyone,” she says. “If Dana White wants me to fight Holly Holm or Norma Dumont, I’m ready for it. My goal is the belt.”
